This giant towering cumulus was spotted forming north east of Warrnambool Airport this morning, and in a matter of minutes it was standing tall against the horizon. These clouds signal strong upward air currents and can quickly develop into thunderstorms under the right conditions and should be avoided.
Towering cumulus clouds (TCU) are often an early indicator of convective activity, meaning pilots keep a close eye on them for potential turbulence and weather changes. A reminder that the sky is always full of surprises!

Despite the poor weather today, there was still a bit of activity at the airport! This Leonardo AW169 was spotted conducting flight ops in the area. The AW169 is the smaller sibling to the AW139, which we frequently see here operated by Babcock and HEMS4.
While both helicopters share advanced technology and versatility, the AW139 boasts greater range and capacity, making it a favorite for offshore transport and search and rescue. The AW169, on the other hand, is a lighter and more agile machine, well-suited for EMS, law enforcement, and VIP transport.
A great sight to see in the skies over Warrnambool!

Unfortunately due to the poor weather forecast for Sunday we've had to postpone our Wheels and Wings event. We are hoping to reorganise something for next month and will re-advertise once confirmed.
